Stignano · RC · Calabria
Villa Caristo, in Stignano, is a baroque pearl in the heart of Calabria: an eighteenth-century residence with monumental staircases, Italian gardens and statues that turn every frame into a painting. It is one of the most scenographic venues I have photographed in the region.
The risk, in a place like this, is that the architecture eats the people. My work here consists of balancing wide shots — indispensable, because the villa deserves to be shown — with the close range of reportage, where the glances survive.
It is a short distance from the Ionian coast of Reggio and from the villages of the Locride, Gerace included: couples who want a medieval second set find it the same day.

Frequently asked

Yes, Gerace is close and offers a medieval set completely different from the villa's baroque.
