Crotone is the city of Pythagoras and Magna Graecia: at Capo Colonna the last column of the temple of Hera Lacinia has watched over the Ionian for twenty-five centuries, and just south the Aragonese castle of Le Castella rises straight out of the sea. Hard to imagine more epic backdrops for a wedding.

My reportage here blends the grandeur of history with the sweetness of the coast: the red beaches of Capo Rizzuto, the protected waters of the marine reserve, sunsets warming the ancient stone.
