What actually drives the price
Price does not depend on the number of photographs: it depends on time, responsibility and invisible work. Five variables really matter: hours of coverage (ceremony and reception only, or from preparations to the end of the party), whether a second photographer is present, distance and any overnight stays, the amount of post-production required, and the final products — albums, prints, galleries.
The visible work is the day itself. The invisible work is everything else: location scouting, building the timing with the couple, immediate multi-drive backup, selection, developing every single frame, delivery and archiving. On a twelve-hour wedding, desk hours normally outnumber shooting hours.
Italian market ranges (and what they mean)
On the Italian market a wedding photography service generally sits between €1,200 and €4,000, with higher peaks for very established names and multi-day destination weddings. In Calabria the figures tend to fall in the middle of that band, varying with season and day of the week.
Below a certain threshold, though, the maths stops working: a quote dramatically under the average means something has been removed — hours, the second photographer, hand-made post-production, insurance, taxes. That is not prestige, it is arithmetic.
Beware the opposite extreme too: a high price guarantees nothing on its own. Always ask to see one entire wedding, start to finish, not just the ten best portfolio frames.
What a serious quote must contain
A clear quote states: hours of coverage with start and end times; number of photographers; the minimum number of high-resolution images delivered and individually developed; delivery times; delivery method (private online gallery, download, physical media); any printed products with materials and sizes; travel costs; deposit and balance; and what happens in case of postponement or bad weather.
If one of these lines is missing it is not a detail: it is exactly where misunderstandings appear once the wedding is over.
How to compare two quotes properly
Bring both offers to the same unit. Divide the price by the actual hours of coverage and check whether the second photographer is included or an extra. Verify how many images are delivered developed, not merely shot. Look at timing: a three-week delivery and a six-month delivery are not the same service.
Then ask the question that really matters: will you show me one complete wedding, with difficult light and with rain? Anyone who works well has at least one to show you.
When to book (and why the date changes the price)
In Calabria the season runs May to September, and Saturdays in July and August sell out twelve to eighteen months ahead. Booking early does not only secure the photographer you want: it gives you room to build the day's timing around the light, which is the real difference between a beautiful service and a forgettable one.
Weekdays and the months of April, October and November often offer better conditions — in price and, honestly, in light too.
